A story of performance built through pressure
I thank the pressures I've experienced for the successes I've achieved.
My first encounter with pressure goes all the way back to the beginning. Fleeing civil war in Sudan with my family and settling in Australia as a young immigrant.
And they continued, as I trained and competed in three Olympic cycles and various national competitions. Becoming the first Australian in 53 years to reach an 800m final on the international stage, and holding the national record for your country all comes with a unique level of expectation and pressure.
But I never let it limit my potential.
Throughout my journey, I've learned firsthand that performance is built through preparation, discipline, resilience and the ability to respond (not retreat) when pressure rises.
A lesson that was tested again in 2022, when I faced the public scrutiny of a false doping allegation.
In the midst of uncertainty, expectation and public scrutiny, I've consistently found myself returning to the same behaviours, mindsets and performance systems that have led me to my achievements; clarity, preparation, presence, persistence and people.
This personalised framework forms the basis of the work I do and lessons I share with individuals and teams in high-pressure environments.
Ensuring pressure is never the limiter to their performance outcomes.

Alongside competing, I’ve focused on my impact beyond the track.
As a father, coach, mentor and performance practitioner, I've found a number of platforms and avenues to teach my learnings and support the younger generations pursue their dreams in the face of pressure and adversity.
Across sport, leadership, education and life, I’ve seen the same truth. Performance isn’t built on motivation alone. It’s built through repeatable systems that help people prepare, respond and perform in any environment.
I've learnt that pressure is not something to fear, but something that can shape growth, confidence and performance when you know how to work with it.
These lessons became the foundation of Bol Performance Group.
What was once just me sharing my story through keynotes, has now evolved into a performance development organisation grounded in lived experience and evidence-based practice.
Today, we partner with organisations, schools, sporting clubs and athletes to help people turn pressure into confidence, capability and sustainable performance outcomes.
The same principles that helped me perform on the world stage now help others perform in theirs.
My Performance Philosophy
My performance philosophy focuses on building the mental, behavioural and environmental systems that allow us to execute consistently and sustainably when pressure rises.
Not by avoiding it, but by learning how to work with it.
This is how pressure becomes a catalyst for growth, not a limiter of performance.
Pressure is inevitable in performance environments.
What separates the good from the great is whether people and teams have the behaviours, mindsets and systems to respond to it effectively.
Performance isn’t reserved for elite athletes or top performers.
When broken down into clear principles and repeatable practices, high performance becomes accessible to anyone, in any environment.
Motivation can fluctuate.
Performance improves through habits, preparation and strong systems that hold under pressure.
Confidence under pressure is the result of preparation.
Resilience is the result of knowing how to respond when the pressure rises.
